What Is a Rhema Word?
Rhema (Greek): a spoken, revealed, “now” word from God for a specific person, season, or situation.
• Distinct from Logos, the written, eternal Word of God.
• Romans 10:17 – “Faith comes by hearing… the Word (Rhema) of God.”
Typical purposes of a rhema word:
• Reveal direction
• Confirm purpose
• Bring clarity amid confusion
• Signal transition
• Prepare for a new season
• Possible delivery methods: prayer, Scripture, dreams, visions, preaching, prophecy, worship, quiet moments.
• Isaiah 30:21 – God gives personal, timely guidance: “This is the way; walk in it.”
• A genuine rhema word:
• Produces faith (Heb 11:1).
• Often precedes transition (Gen 12:1).
• Requires obedience for manifestation (Jas 1:22).
• Will be tested; opposition targets the seed (Lk 8:11-15).
Stewardship guidelines:
• Write it down – Hab 2:2
• Pray over it continually – 1 Th 5:17
• Align life with it – faith plus alignment prevents delay.
• Guard it – not every word should be shared (Lk 2:19).
• Wait with expectation – Ecc 3:1; delay ≠ denial.
• Seek wise counsel and obey in small things.
Signs you have received a rhema word: unusual peace, repeated confirmations, deep conviction, increased faith, clarity, urgency to pray, strong inner witness. A rhema word will never contradict Scripture.
