This week's Monday Morning Prayer Call focused on something many of us know we should do but don't always think deeply about: studying the Word of God. But this wasn't simply a conversation about reading more chapters or checking off a Bible plan. The emphasis was on allowing Scripture to transform us from the inside out.
One statement was repeated several times throughout the call:
"Reading the Word produces information, but meditating on the Word produces transformation."
We were challenged to move beyond collecting biblical knowledge and instead become people who are shaped by what we read. Through prayer, meditation, obedience, worship, and consistent study. God's Word doesn't just teach us truth it changes the way we think, respond, serve, and live.
Here are my notes and takeaways from this week's call.
Approach Scripture with reverence and prayer (Psalm 119:18)
Many believers read Scripture regularly but never slow down long enough to ask what God is actually saying. The goal isn't simply finishing a chapter it's understanding God's heart and allowing His truth to reshape our thinking.
Compare Scripture with Scripture (1 Corinthians 2:13). Example comparisons: Romans 10:17 with Hebrews 11 (faith); 1 Corinthians 13 with John 15 (love).
Meditation was described as allowing Scripture to linger long after we close our Bible. Rather than rushing to the next task, we're invited to carry God's Word with us throughout the day. Reading gives information; meditation allows that information to become transformation.
Obedience matters more than the accumulation of knowledge. True maturity isn't measured by how much we know, but by how faithfully we live what we've learned.
Worship was presented not as an event but as a lifestyle. Singing is one expression of worship, but worship itself is the daily offering of our lives to God. Creating an atmosphere of worship throughout the week helps cultivate sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and strengthens our ability to walk by faith rather than by sight.
Serve others in love and with excellence (Galatians 5:13; Matthew 28:19-20)
Final Reflection
One of my biggest takeaways from this week's call was the reminder that spiritual maturity isn't built through information alone.
It's possible to know a lot about Scripture without allowing Scripture to change us.
The invitation this week is simple: don't just read the Word, sit with it. Pray before you open your Bible. Ask questions. Meditate on what you've read. Look for opportunities to apply it. Let it shape your thoughts, decisions, conversations, and responses throughout the week.
As we continue growing in Christ, may we be people who don't merely hear the Word, but obey it. May our study lead to surrender, our knowledge lead to wisdom, and our time with God produce fruit that others can see.
Reflection Question:
What is one truth God has been highlighting in your life lately and how can you actively apply it this week?
See you next Monday morning!!
